The Surgical Services Department is made up of the Operating Room, Endo Room, Same Day Surgery Holding Area, Pre-Op and Post-Op and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The area is directed by a Registered Nurse.

Operating Room
The operating hours are Monday through Friday 6:00am – 2:00pm. The operating room is available 24 hours a day through the use of on call personnel. Anesthesia care is provided by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Scope of Care Provided: The operating room consists of one general purpose OR, an Endoscopy Room for Gastrointestinal procedures, and an outpatient room for local excisions. Patients cared for in these rooms range in age from infant to geriatric. The operating room provides service to surgeons who practice in the following areas: general, ENT (ears, nose, throat), Orthopedics, and ophthalmology.

Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
The PACU operating hours are 6:00am – 2:00pm. Monday through Friday. PACU staff are available to provide nursing care 24 hours a day through the use of an on call coverage.

Scope of Care Provided: The PACU provides nursing care and monitoring to patients who are immediately post anesthetized or sedated for first stage recovery. The patients are monitored and provided with nursing care throughout the PACU experience by a RN who has been oriented and documented as proficient as a PACU nurse.

Same Day Surgery
Same Day Surgery is open and staffed from 6:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday through Friday to provide nursing care to patients.

Scope of Care Provided: Nursing care is provided to patients of all ages from infant to geriatric who are scheduled for surgery. Pre-operative teaching, evaluation and testing are provided. Patient care is provided by use of the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The care that is provided is pre-operative/procedural and post-operative/procedural through to discharge or transfer to receiving unit. Follow-up phone calls are done by RN’s.
